King of the mountain: China renames peak after Avatar film
From the WSJ’s CHINA REAL TIME REPORT:
“…Avatar’s box-office record-breaking success in China recently inspired officials in Zhangjiajie, a scenic area of Hunan province, to rename one of their mountains after the film. The craggy peak formerly known as South Sky Pillar (which was also known as Heaven and Earth Pillar) was rechristened “Avatar Hallelujah Mountain” at an official ceremony in the Wulingyuan national park Monday.
But while Avatar has many fans in China, the decision to rename part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site after a Hollywood film hasn’t been quite as popular.”
